Holidays 2015 – Part 1 – Tasmania

This year we decided to go to the USA for our holidays, and that was settled. Just a few days before we went out booking our flights, we got invited to photograph my friend’s wedding in Tasmania, so we tweaked our plans a little bit and managed to include a trip to Tasmania before flying to America!

We spent our first night (Saturday) in Hobart and were lucky enough to have strong Aurora activity and clear skies. So we drove to Goat’s Bluff and then Howden, two popular places to see the Aurora Australis. And we got a glimpse of the Southern Lights (not before getting lost going to both places)!

Next morning we drove northeast to the region known as Bay of Fires, where the wedding was taking place on Tuesday. We had plenty of time so we stopped a lot on our way to the little town of St Helens. We tried to see the Auroras again, going to the remote Beer Barrel Beach. No Auroras that night, but a lot of fun driving very slow at night to avoid hitting any of the animals on the side of the road.

The day after the wedding we flew back to Brisbane to prepare for our next stop: New York City!
